- From the Poverty stats (3-yr average column), choose 5 states from each section: South, New England, Mid-Atlantic, Midwest, and West. Figure the average for the 5 states in each section, then graph the poverty for the sections.
- From the Obesity stats, choose 5 states from each section. Figure the average for obesity rate for the 5 states.
- Graph the average for each section. Graph both poverty and obesity.
- Analysis
- Which (a) 2 regions are the heaviest and (b) which 2 states are heaviest?
- Which (a) 2 regions are skinniest and (b) which 2 states are skinniest?
- Which (a) 2 regions are most poor and (b) which 2 states are most poor?
- Which (a) 2 regions are richest and (b) which 2 states are richest?
- Write down any trends you see between the two pages.
- What might be an incorrect conclusion people might draw from the two stats?
- Write down what you would do/say about this info if you were president and had a bit of time on the radio. Offer your concern, advice, encouragement, plan, or say what could be done to help the situation. 2 minutes max. Bonus points if you give your mini-speech.
