Causation = one thing CAUSES another to happen
Correlation = two things GO TOGETHER (but one doesn't necessarily CAUSE another)
You are to make 2 correlations:
- Correlation #1 to compare two things you predict WILL correlate closely
- Correlation #2 to compare two things you predict will NOT correlate closely
Steps:
- For correlation #1, pick two things you think go together.
- Interview or question about 10 people to gather data.
- Chart the data on a table like the one below.
- Graph the data on a "scatterplot."
- For correlation #2, pick two things you think will NOT go together.
- Then just do steps 2 through 4.
- Write a short paragraph evaluating your two correlations. To what degree did the first two things actually go together? How about the second one?
- Staple it, make sure your name is on it, and turn it in.
Example:
Correlate how a person rates himself on a scale of 1 to 10 as a "movie watcher" and a 10 question movie trivia quiz.
