Interview with a senior

Page history last edited by crump 1 year, 2 months ago

Interview a senior citizen, not a high school senior! The person should be at least 65 years old.

  • Preferably, interview someone who was in the military. This isn't mandatory, but it would be good.
  • Come up with a set of questions to ask. Simple bio questions are fine at first...name? place of birth? schooling? profession? etc.
  • Eventually, try to ask questions that are not just one word or short answers but rather are open-ended. This will "get the person talking." For example...
    • Not-so-good questions...Were prices lower back then? What was your job?
    • Better open-ended question...Did your dollar go farther back then? How so? How did you get into your profession and do you feel that it made a difference? How?
  • Record your questions and the person's answers. Either write them or you can record them using a camera or recording gizmo. Be sure to ask them first if that's okay.
  • Be sure to thank the person you interviewed!
  • After getting the info, organize it then write a report. It should be at least 3 pages typed. Include...
    1. an introduction  - this could explain who you chose, why, where you met, how you went about conducting the interview, etc.
    2. Q and A - you can simply write your questions and answers in Q and A format
    3. a conclusion - wrap it up, explain how you ended the interview and write what you learned about the person and the whole interview experience
