Get a group of 2-3 people. You are to get a $1 item and create an advertising campaign for the product. Your item can be something you buy or something you make. If you make it, it should be of inexpensive materials ($1). There will be five parts to this project (see below) plus a peer evaluation (we'll vote). All group members will receive the same grade.
Tasks
Note: From the first 3 options (TV, radio, website), you can CHOOSE TO DO ONLY 1.
- Create a 30 second television commercial. This can be either on camera, Keynote, PowerPoint, or an animated commercial using Stykz. Make your product shine!
- Create a 30 second radio commercial. GarageBand would be the program to use for this.
- Create a website for your product accentuating all the reasons it's awesome and people should buy it. This would be for tech-savvy people, but could include a lot of things...video ad, radio ad, pictures, etc.
- The group must create a print ad for either a newspaper, magazine or billboard. Should be one page only. Lots of program options here: Appleworks, Comic Life, others
- A brief written report (1 page typed) describing your marketing strategy. It should address such things as...
- Why was that product chosen?
- Who's the targeted demographic?
- What's the marketing strategy (describe the TV ad, radio ad, etc.)?
- Why do you believe this strategy would be effective for your targeted group?
- Anything else you feel is appropriate to describe your marketing.
- Prepare and present a sales presentation of your work to the class. It should include viewing the video, listening to the radio commercial, and seeing the print advertisement. This will essentially to show why your product is amazing and students should buy (vote for) your product.
Things to consider
- How can you make your item special or desirable?
- What is your target audience (gender, age, economic status, etc.)
- Where and when will this advertisement be shown? (what channel or radio station, what time)
Grading
We'll use the rubric below for a max of 25 points.
