Page history last edited by crump 5 months, 2 weeks ago

An overview: http://www.worldwideschool.org/library/books/hst/english/SinkingoftheTitanic/Chap0.html

  1. From the first paragraph, give the "bare-bones" details answering who? what? where? when? and how?
  2. A dedication was offered by Henry Van Dyke. His job or vocation suggests to us his point-of-view. What was his job?
  3. In his "spiritual consolation," Van Dyke says the Titanic left behind what three things?
  4. What were the two lessons he said were left?
  5. What is the great ideal he says was left?
  6. From where does he say this ideal (or "rule") comes?
  7. From the "Facts about the wreck..."
    1. List stats that show that the Titanic was ill-prepared for a disaster.
    2. What stat supports the statement: "Either the ship's crew was poorly trained for launching lifeboats or conditions at the time were too hectic to properly launch them, or both."
  8. Would you have been able to save the day? Morse code was used wirelessly at this time. As the Titanic was sinking, there actually was another ship nearby. Try to decode the Morse below. You'll need to (a) listen to the mp3 below and (b) look at a Morse code chart to decode letters.
